Last night, I had a dream that Jason Webley was working at a pizza parlor. He served our pizza and I was all, “You look like Jason Webley.” And he was all, “Yeah, ummm…” And Eoin was all, “Fuck, you are Jason Webley!” And it was Jason Webley.

For some reason he was working incognito. Like Bill Murray in Coffee and Cigarettes. He seemed kinda upset that we found him out, but I don’t think it bothered him too much. In my dream.

How are you in internetland? Well, I hope. I hope all of you are toughing out the biblical flooding, and deathly allergies (my step-mother used the word ’sneezure’ the other day and I love it), and downturned economy (A dollar to use the dryer? Fuck you!), and I hope you’re doing it with style. The world is a topsy-turvy place right now, even topsier and turvier than usual, but I have it on good authority that April 17 will be a turning point of a day. We’ll see.

What I do know will be a good day, is any day on this list below. Because if seeing Jason Webley doesn’t make your day good, then why don’t you swallow razor blades?

Despite Everything, Aaron Cometbus Writes Letters

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Normally we wouldn’t bother you with two posts in one day, but sometimes you’ve just got to nerd-out over awesome things that happen, like, say, receiving a handwritten letter in the mail from Aaron Cometbus (yes, that Aaron Cometbus, of recent Thorns of Life fame, but also known primarily for his participation in nearly 20 other bands, most notably Crimpshrine, The Blank Fight, Pinhead Gunpowder, Cleveland Bound Death Sentence and, from time to time, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb).

At a recent Thorns of Life show, a few of us put our heads together and wrote a heartfelt letter to Aaron, and while we were convinced he wouldn’t respond, lo and behold, he did! Check it out! For a reprint of the full text, continue reading!

Introducing THE PILLOWFIGHTS!!!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

We’re shaking in our footie pajamas with excitement over welcoming the newest band to the Silver Sprocket family, The Pillowfights from San Jose, CA!

Their songs hardly ever break the one minute mark, but in these short bursts are distillations of my favorite things about The Descendants, Lemuria, Discount, Soda – OK it really isn’t fair to automatically compare a girl-fronted pop-punk band to every other good girl-fronted pop-punk band, but fuck it, those bands all rule and so do The Pillowfights!

Download this song! Touche Marianne, Touche

New New Trust Shows and New New Trust Vinyl

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

While the more superstitious of us spent Friday the 13th (there are three of them this year!) walking around ladders, avoiding mirrors and side-stepping black cats, others were Dueling Drumslucky enough to catch The New Trust play a house show in Oakland with fellow Bay-Area bands Comadre and Spires. It’s difficult to pick the highlight of the evening – whether it was the amalgamation of three great bands or the post-show living room dance party hosted by the gracious Al. But honestly, The New Trust’s closing number, “Get Vulnerable,” which featured the dueling drums of band member Julia Lancer and Ian Anderson (Dead to Me / Olehole / too many other bands to name), took the cake, blowing away nearly everyone in the room. For those of you who missed out, don’t fret, because The New Trust has packed its schedule full of shows, most likely in a town within driving distance of you

This weekend begins a three-day stretch of shows across the Bay. Sonoma County locals can catch The New Trust on FridayJJ Staples at the Matrix (see “Song for Ben Henning”). Saturday’s show is one you will not want to miss, a KSCU-sponsored gig at San Jose Works featuring art and music of ladies that rock. Show starts at 7 p.m. and is all ages! Sharing the bill with The New Trust will be The Pillowfights, Dateless, Touch My Rash, Ashley Allred, Meredith Edgar, Cameao and The Fire Move. Finally, wrap-up your weekend with an early afternoon matinee at 924 Gilman, boasting the musical stylings of The New Trust, Hudson Falcons, Olehole, Dateless, F-Bombers, Heatwarmer and The Albert Square. Show starts at 3 p.m. and is $8 with a membership. Hope to see you all there!

In the midst of all this show chaos, be sure to pick up the new 7″ split between The New Trust and Pteradon. This release has been in the works for – I’m not kidding – TNTsomething like a year-and-a-half, and is finally a reality. It will be available at shows, but if you’re too busy / boring to come out in person, it will be on the web-store next week. The first 500 copies of the split come pressed on pretty, pristine white vinyl and feature two songs by each band.
For those not in the know, two-thirds of the members of Pteradon are also in The Hard Girls, who are also in Jesse Michaels‘ new band, Classics of Love. In short, you’re basically cheating yourself by not going out and buying this record right away.

Sup dawg. We herd you like dogs, so we put a dog on your album so you can dog while y..wait…lets start this over
