Brittany Moseley, The Columbus Dispatch:

“Combining narrative storytelling with her signature portraiture style of detailed lines and vibrant colors, Buchanan tells the story of Black punk music. She starts with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who pioneered rock music long before Elvis was shaking his hips on “The Milton Berle Show.” In 64 pages, she touches on a flurry of musicians, from Proto Punk, Pure Hell and Bad Brains, to current acts like Killer of Sheep, Big Joanie and Minority Threat.

Buchanan’s work centers Black voices, from her mural of Zora Neal Hurston for Zora’s House, a local co-working space, to her bookmarks featuring Columbus Black artists for Prologue Bookshop. With her new comic — the first in an ongoing series for Silver Sprocket — Buchanan wants to provide more nuance to a subject that is so often viewed through a whitewashed lens.”
