Today and every day, Silver Sprocket will always fight for the books and artists we work with against book bans and censorship. We are so proud to publish so many queer and trans artists, artists of color, neurodivergent artists, disabled artists, and artists across multiple intersecting marginalizations. As we see so many unfortunate attempts to silence their stories, we want to state with no room for doubt that:

Silver Sprocket’s unequivocal support for our artists extends to never asking for any reduction or minimizing of experiences of marginalization in order to be published or printed. We will likewise never limit the language an author is allowed to use in print to speak about marginalization, nor limit them in public spaces to appease censors at any point.

Our unequivocal support in publishing our comics extends to fighting attempts at censorship, especially in attempts to label books as “obscene” or any manner of “inappropriate” to push out experiences that don’t conform to a narrow conservative worldview. Our comics will always openly take on subjects like reproductive justice, racial justice and inequality, homo/transphobia and queer liberation, gendered and racialized violence, decolonization efforts, and the destigmatization of neurodivergence, among others.

We will continue to publish books and artists that match our values and that don’t conform to corporate or political perspectives of what stories deserve support.

We hope that other publishers will follow this approach, as we have followed guidance from organizations like Authors Against Book Bans.

And as a reminder, we have made several of our books available to read for free at the link here.
